Cottage Cheese Thighs Go Away!

By admin On February 18, 2009 Under Diet Tips, Fitness Tips

Cottage cheese.  What most people think of as a tasty treat is my ultimate nightmare.  Especially when it comes to the texture on my thighs.  Unfortunately, as many as 90% of women have cottage cheese thighs, otherwise known as cellulite.  Whether you are overweight or thin, cellulite knows no boundaries and can effect even the thinnest of people.  See Mischa Barton below.  Eek!

Genes greatly determine whether or not you will develop cellulite and the severity of the cottage cheese texture.

There are two types of cellulite:  hard and soft.  Hard cellulite affects active women including dancers and runners and is the hardest type to eradicate.  Great!

Cellulite can also be caused by poor diet, crash diets, smoking, being dehydrated and being sedentary.

Even though genetics play a major part in cottage cheese thighs, here are some tips that will diminish the appearance of cellulite…

- Drink up and make sure you are hydrated with the appropriate amount of water per day.

- Cardio is often the best way to blast the dimples on your thighs.  Try any of the following:  walking, jogging or swimming. These exercises promote sweating, helping to burn fat and detoxify the skin.  Keep in mind exercise will not get rid of cellulite, however, it will prevent and manage it.  Less fat equals less cottage cheese action!

- Squats, squats, squats!  After your cardio workout hit the weights.  After squatting place weight on one leg and then the other, creating a rocking movement that will help the muscles that line the outside of your thighs.

- Building muscle helps eliminate fat, therefore buh-bye cottage cheese thighs!  Make sure to have enough protein in your diet and work those muscles.

Urban Girl Fitness Quote of the Day:

To be able to laugh at one’s shortcomings is positive if it helps to put things into perspective.  It reminds us that everyone has the same issues, and helps women feel better about themselves.  If it’s laughing at the fact that everyone’s cellulite looks worse in the mirrors in the changing rooms, that’s good, because everyone’s had that; you don’t feel alone. ~Linda Papadopoulos
