Running is a great way to lose weight and stay in shape. Seasoned runners also know that they need to fill their bodies with carbs to provide them with the energy to push their muscles to the limits. However, if you are on a diet that doesn’t allow you to eat too many carbs, your muscles won’t get as much energy as they need to burn to provide energy while running. They will have to rely on fat instead to provide the fuel for running.
If you are considering starting running regularly, you need to consider some things. If you run with a low amount of carbs in your body, your muscles will rely on fat right away to provide energy to run.
According to a study, overweight people on low carb diets will burn more fat while running as compared to people who do eat carbs. If your body is not used so far to having a low amount of carbs, you will feel weak and lack energy to to go on proper running sessions.
If you decide to take up running, first make sure that you have been on a low carb diet for at least a few weeks. Also, take in about 0.7 grams of protein for every pound of your weight every day. This will ensure that your body gets used to functioning properly without having the same amount of carbs as it did before. Once that phase is reached, you can gradually begin your running exercises. Start by running a half a mile for the first few days. Then gradually increase that to 1 mile, then 2, then 3 and so on.
You also need to get the energy to run. You can provide running fuel for your body by eating a snack 2 or 3 hours before you run, to ensure that your body will have the material to use as fuel. Good snack options are hard boiled eggs or no carb meat. Similarly, mixed greens on top of chicken or beef slices is a great snack to provide running energy.
If your diet allows you to ingest at least a few carbs, a good snack option is to eat 20 to 30 roasted almonds giving you a carb value of 2 to 2.5 grams. Another good options is to consume half a cup’s worth of whole milk ricotta cheese with half a cup of cucumbers, which will give you a carb value of 6 grams.
