Self-love, the idea of accepting and loving yourself for who you are is inextricably linked with weight loss. You will never achieve a healthy weight until you begin to love yourself, fat and all. People often fuel their desire to lose weight with negative mind chatter and self-hatred. When you truly love yourself, you will actually want to take care of yourself; you will eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest.

If you don’t know how to begin to lose weight by self-love, the following tips will prove a useful guidance:

1. Practice Self-love

Begin by looking in the mirror and making friends with the person that you see. Tell yourself ‘I am beautiful and perfect just the way I am’, pamper and nurture yourself, take luxurious bubble baths, treat yourself to a mani-pedi or get a new haircut. You are worth it!

2. Choose the right foods

Choose colorful raw veggies, succulent fruits and beautiful fresh foods. Shop on the outer aisles of the grocery store where the fresh food is located. You don’t need junk and greasy fast food. You deserve to be fed nourishing, healthy, organic produce, lean meats and whole grains like brown rice and quinoa.

Only eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full. Listen to your body and do not give in to mindless indulgence

3. Delight in green juices and smoothies

Select bountiful green leaves such as kale and spinach, add some green apples and water and blend to make a delicious detoxifying green juice. 3-4 glasses a day will help keep you full and eliminate unhealthy cravings.

4. Exercise your beautiful body

Even if you can only manage a short walk per day, do it. Your body deserves it and the more you do of it, you will find, the easier it becomes. As you exercise, meditate on your weight loss goals. This will help keep you motivated and on track.

However,  be careful to set realistic goals and don’t be discouraged if they are not happening as fast as you expected.

5. Be gentle with yourself

Your body is not the enemy. Don’t treat it with distaste. Don’t look at yourself in disgust and anger. Make a conscious choice to treat your body gently and with reverence.

Start right now. Get up, look in the mirror and praise your body. If you have the time, draw up a grocery list and go shopping for clean, healthy foods or go for a run. You’ll see—love yourself and the weight loss will follow.
